Abstract
At the Millennium Summit in September 2000 the largest gathering of world leaders in history adopted the UN Millennium Declaration, committing their nations to a new global partnership to reduce extreme poverty and setting out a series of time-bound targets, with a deadline of 2015, that have become known as the Millennium Development Goals(MDGs). MDGs are basic human rights-the rights of each person on the planet to health, education, shelter, and security. MDGs can be achieved if immediate steps are taken to implement existing commitments. Reaching its goals for development around the world is not only vital to building better, healthier and decent lives for millions of people, it is also essential to building enduring global peace and security. This paper put to use world values survey 2005 official data and attempted to analyze the degree of recognition on MDGs among China, USA, Korea and Japan. The results showed that the degree of recognition on MDGs differed according to nation and the degree of recognition on MDGs in China higher than that of USA. And the logistic regression analysis revealed that the recognition as world citizen and the recognition as a member of a nation was significant variables that explain the degree of recognition on MDGs. So the implication of this paper is that the degree of globalization on China is not lower than that on USA.
