초록
Although Japanese comics (manga) have occupied large part of popular cultures in East Asia, there have been little serious approaches to the genre of comics in academic field. In other words, comics have been considered to be one of the simple entertainments rather than an object for an academic research. However, this study is examining the possibility of comics as a political medium rather than its characteristics of amusement. Some comics (manga) produced in Japan, which have become fashionable in Japan as well as East Asian countries, are on the subject of the histories of East Asian modernity. The problem in this phenomenon is that these comics have justified and legitimized the historical fault of the colonization performed by Japan in East Asia. Specifically, this study approaches the comics which deals with the Russo-Japanese War of 1905, and discovers that they have provided a particular point of view for East Asian history, which can be led to a distorted and inversed memory or attitude toward historical facts. Comics, as a genre for refreshment, have the potential to reverse a particular interpretation of history into a common sense and vice versa.
