Abstract

This study aims to enhance understanding of BIMP-EAGA by examining the historical background and subsequent progress from the perspective of the Philippines, which proposed and led the launch of BIMP-EAGA. Additionally, the study intends to provide insights necessary for improving relations between Korea and BIMP-EAGA based on a correct understanding of BIMP-EAGA. According to the study, BIMP-EAGA, which was born in a unique historical context, has evolved while experiencing various crises and limitations but has not achieved institutional development towards sub-regionalism. From the Philippines' perspective, the P-EAGA regions of Mindanao and Palawan have not achieved the goals of regional development, income disparity reduction, and social stability through international cooperation due to continued domestic and international instability. The Korean government, aiming to be an Indo-Pacific maritime nation, should actively participate in various projects to expand connectivity within the sub-region in response to BIMP-EAGA's needs and invest actively in various support projects for the institutional strengthening of BIMP-EAGA.
